PHILOSPHY

Goals of Garden Design
SloaneDesign listens to your vision of the garden you desire and works with you to achieve it. The garden should be beautiful day and night and in every season; a garden that is as attractive to you as it is to wildlife.
SloaneDesign creates gardens that are beautiful day or night and in every season; a garden that is as attractive to you as it is to wildlife and pets.
SloaneDesign believes Garden Design should be functional as well as beautiful. By taking into consideration patterns of snowfall, water runoff, wind direction, and sun, we can lighten your winter snow removal chores, make your walkways ice free, create a sanctuary of warmth for the cold months and an oasis of cool for the hot months.
SloaneDesign specializes in Garden Design that requires no artificial pesticides or fertilizers and, once established, has little need for water other than rain and snow. We want you to have a garden that is safe for you, your children, your pets, and the environment.

Ponds
SloaneDesign creates unusual and unique ponds that will suit your particular garden space and blend in a natural way with it's surroundings. Contrary to popular belief, ponds do not require a lot of maintenance and do not use much water once they are filled. They are actually a good way to conserve water in your garden and the amount of enjoyment they provide will exceed your expectations.
In addition to the cool and soothing sound of running water, you will find a few inexpensive fish can become pets that will nibble at your fingers and grow in size through the summer months. Your fish will survive in the pond through the winter to greet you in the spring. As long as you don't overstock your pond, all you need is a pump and a small low cost heater to provide an oxygen hole when the pond is frozen.

Paths and Patios
Walkways are the story tellers of the garden. They take you around a bend to reveal a lovely Oakleaf Hydrangea, a small bench, or a stunning view of ornamental grasses illuminated by the setting sun.
A stone walkway with thyme tucked into the spaces can widen into a patio with two chairs and a small table ready for a cup of coffee or glass of wine. A brick path in a running course pattern becomes a herringbone patio before transforming again into a basket weave walkway.
SloaneDesign will build a path of stone, brick, or a deep, soft layer of wood chips to take you through your garden, up to your front door, or onto your patio.

Topiary
Master gardener, Sarah Sloane specializes in boxwood topiaries in the shape of whimsical birds. The topiaries are designed for large or small pots and accent your garden with a unique, living point of interest
